Our History

In the early decades, a few courageous individuals from around the world felt God’s call to bring the gospel to The Gambia in a new way.Trained and sent by Cru (then known globally as Campus Crusade for Christ), these pioneering staff members began their work focusing on building relationships and sharing Christ with university students.
They had few resources, but they had a big vision: that one day, every person in The Gambia would have the opportunity to know someone who truly follows Jesus.

From the early campus Bible studies and outreach events, the ministry began to grow—student by student, city by city. As local leaders came to Christ and joined the mission, the movement took root. By God’s grace, more campuses were reached, and the first national staff were trained and commissioned.

In the following decades, Great Commission Movement – The Gambia expanded its reach beyond the university. New strategies were developed to serve families, professionals, churches, and digital audiences—each tailored to meet people where they are and introduce them to Christ.

Today, Great Commission Movement – The Gambia is part of a global Cru movement present in over 190 nations. We are a locally led, globally connected team of staff, volunteers, and ministry partners. Together, we are passionate about seeing spiritual movements everywhere, so that everyone in The Gambia knows someone who truly follows Jesus.

As we look to the future, we are filled with hope. We believe God is not finished with The Gambia. We dream of a nation transformed by the gospel, where students, families, churches, and leaders are living out their faith and multiplying their lives for His glory.
